What Is Skyframe Research About?

Skyframe Research is focused on developing an expandable, rotating, shielded space habitat known as the EXPAT (EXPandable rotating shielded space habitAT) design concept. This innovative idea aims to create a space habitat that can grow from a small initial structure to support up to 8,000 people and an interior ecosystem with lakes and up to 10,000 trees.

The project has received support from NASA's NIAC (NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts) grant program and involves collaboration with experts from Texas A&M University, TransAstra Corp., and UCLA. The habitat's design includes features like radiation shielding and the potential for deployment in various orbits and locations, including cislunar space and as an orbiting cycler between Earth and Mars2.
